Presenting SRU’s SECOND ANNUAL LABEL-FREE TECHNOLOGY GRANT

Are you interested in bringing label-free technology to your laboratory? SRU is proud to announce the second year of its LABEL-FREE TECHNOLOGY GRANT program. SRU will award an academic or non-profit researcher with a BIND SCANNER, our newest high-resolution label-free detection instrument, to support innovative scientific and drug discovery research.

WHO: The award is open to PhD's at all universities and non-profit organizations worldwide. Prior experience with label-free methods is not required. Proposals will be accepted from both individual researchers or joint applications with core screening centers.

WHAT: The award consists of an SRU label-free BIND® SCANNER, associated BIND® optical Biosensors and in-depth technology training.

WHEN: The deadline for grant submission is Wednesday, January 5, 2011. The applications will be reviewed by a panel of SRU scientists and judged on scientific merit, novelty of research, laboratory infrastructure and label-free technology’s ability to advance science and medicine. The grant recipient will be announced on or before January 31, 2011.

WHY: SRU is dedicated to making quality label-free technology accessible to every laboratory as well as leading the way in innovative label-free instruments and applications. The power of label-free technology has been demonstrated across a broad set of applications in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries. However, the technology offers further possibilities through new and enabling applications in the academic community. We believe our newest BIND detection system, the BIND SCANNER, could have significant impacts on an enormous number of applications that have direct implications in drug discovery. We hope this award will foster fundamental, yet high-impact cellular research and application development using the BIND SCANNER.

SRU has shown the utility of label-free technology in a number of areas but is interested in expanding its applications. Grant proposals for ANY application of SRU’s BIND technology will be considered. Potential applications include:
  • Stem cell and primary cell applications
  • Heterogeneous cell population analysis
  • Cell differentiation
  • Cell migration or invasion
  • Cell death/apoptosis
  • Cell adhesion
  • ADME-Tox
  • RNAi
  • Wound healing
  • Screening & Profiling
  • New insights into specific disease areas
  • Novel cell-based assays
